I always try to reason out popularity based on merit which is a Fool's Errand since only Family get the big notice.
It can't be about controversial topics since (if memory serves) Mia Angelou wrote extensively on abuse.
You are merely a chronicler of our times. If people don't like the topic then they really don't like Life.
What is political?

1. The DARK ART using science of Steering the Minds of herd animals on a massive scale. Messin' deys bidnez wit yo bidnez.
2. The codification of demonstrable, repeatable clinical methods of Herd Control.
3. The meddling and illicit 'affairs' inflicted by anal-micro-managers that tain't no defnishun of no Partay dat I ebber been vited to. Yo?
So, if you are saying that your poetry deals with politics, I submit that you are merely railing against the pervasive perversion of Mind Control as ANY true poet would because poets are sensitive to such damaging rays so they become the Canaries in the Cold Mind that warn others they's 'bout to fall off da purch soon too.

It’s quality over quantity, especially given that my poetry’s more for those who DON’T read/like it, and are Truthseekers in general. However, if there are any poets out there that are fellow Truthseekers, please introduce yourselves!
I’ve been working the Stack since that time, all trial and error, liking others’ work, commenting on it (which you already have some great rapport with @Karafree Jeanetically Modified, et al.) Even while I’m on the day job!
I think by the end of next year, you’ll well hit that number if not more. It’s a long game which is all about building community with like-minded souls.
