Here are some of the jams echoing from the halls of the Victory Palace. Hope you enjoy some or all of them.
Procul Harum – Repent Walpurgis
While I’ve known this band for decades based only on a handful of their classic songs “Whiter Shade of Pale” and “Conquistador”, I’ve never heard this song before; and I gotta say, it’s such a dramatic, powerful, hauntingly cool song!
Thunderclap Newman – Something in the Air
This song was featured in the 1960s film “The Magic Christian”, a personal favorite of mine; and in my fantasy it’s the anthem that accompanies the Great Resistance wherein Humanity wakes up and pushes back against the mind controlling parasites into oblivion. This particular video made me nostalgic for a time when people were embracing their freedom.
Chris Lam and the Universals – Mysterious Land
This appears on the compilation Instro Hipsters a Go-Go vol. 3 and it reminds me of a song that could have been included in the 1960s cult TV series, The Prisoner, but never was. It’s just a brassy, badass song that makes you want to rip down the highway (but don’t blame me if you get pulled over by the police!)
Lee Selmoco – Itinerario B
This musician operated under various names, this being one of them; and his specialty was creating “library music” for Italian films and tv shows. Love those organ jams (can you tell, lol?). if you’ve never entered the world of Italian library music from the 60s and 70s, oh brother! Get ready for some really cool grooves.
and on the spoken word side…
Lord Buckley – Hipsters, Flipsters and Finger Popping Daddies…
This is a hilarious send-up of Mark Antony’s Funeral Oration done through the hip, beatnik lingo of one of the quirkiest spoken word characters, Lord Buckley.
Well, that’s all I got for now poetry lovers. Hope this grooves up things for you and I’ll catch you next time!
Mysterious Land - of course this had to be included in this awesome playlist
Love it...
